22, August 2017:
Bent Kettle Brewing featured their new Habanero K'Paui and Raspberry
K'Paui craft beer at Great Taste of the Midwest 2017 craft beer festival
in Madison, Wisconsin on Saturday, August 13, 2017.
The Great Taste of the Midwest is the second longest-running craft beer festival in North America. Every year over 150 breweries and brewpubs serve about 1000 different beers in a beautiful lakeside setting in Madison, Wisconsin.
With a view of the state capitol, great local food vendors, and acoustic music throughout the park, festival attendees enjoyed the opportunity to explore the finest beers the Midwest has to offer, including Bent Kettle brews.
Ticket sales were limited, so patrons weren’t left standing in line all day for beer. This allowed breathing room for brewers to meet and greet the craft beer lovers and enjoy getting to know each other better with feeling rushed. Bent Kettle’s new Habanero K'Paui and Raspberry K'Paui craft beer flavors were a big hit among the roaming tasters.
Even though tickets for the event were $60 per person, the nonprofit event hosts, Madison Homebrewers and the Tasters Guild, assert “they are not out to make a buck”. They claim they do it for the love of beer. To educate others about beer and to celebrate the good fortune of having some of the finest brewers in the world right there with them in the Midwest.
The ticket price included unlimited beer sampling in a complimentary commemorative tasting glass and an informative program book to guide craft beer lovers to the brewers and their craft beers at the event.
IPhone and Android phone apps were available on the Great Taste website (https://greattaste.org) to download for free onto mobile iOS and Android devices. The apps contained the same brewery and beer lists as the program but had additional features as well.
Plenty of tasty food treats was also available for purchase from a variety of vendors ranging from small snacks to bigger meals; for both carnivores and vegetarians.
Wandering minstrels playing non-amplified acoustic style music was enjoyed throughout the afternoon. There were a variety of musical styles that complemented the incredible variety of beer styles.
Exhibits were featured in a variety of brewing industry affiliates, regional periodicals, and beer ingredient providers. Souvenirs such as beer glasses, commemorative T-shirts and “more fun than you can shake a stick at” were also available for purchase. Many of the brewers brought items from their breweries that were offered for sale, as well.
The Great Taste of the Midwest beer festival is held annually at Olin Park in Madison on the second Saturday in August. The festival site is just off John Nolen Drive, across from the Alliant Energy Center. Tickets go on sale early every year. This year they sold out in May for the August event so be sure to get yours as soon as they go on sale for 2018.
