13, July 2016:
Joker TV, the first all-TV-standards supporting USB version device in
the world, has successfully gained 22 backers on Indiegogo. A light and
compact satellite and terrestrial TV receiver for tablets, PCs and
laptops, Joker TV was launched on Indiegogo to gain the necessary funds
to make this project a reality. As of now, $511 USD has been raised by
22 backers.
Joker TV is a small and compact gadget that requires no internet connection to function. With this small device, users can enjoy digital TV no matter where they are in the world. The USB device has one CI slot and one ISDB-T, DVB-S/S2, DTMB,ATSC, DVB-T/T2 and DVB-C/C2 input.
The channels that can be received by viewers depend on their location.Local TV providers usually distribute terrestrial TV and this consists of local TV channels and several internationalTV channels. For instance, those in Florida can get more than 400 TV channelsfor free. AbylayOspan, founder of the project, plans to make updates for available TV channels in various parts of the world.
With Joker TV, viewers can watch a wide variety of shows using only one device. Joker TV’s supported DTV standards include ISDB-T (Latin America, Brazil and Japan), DVB-S/S2 (satellite and all over the world), DTMB (China, Hong-Kong, Cuba and Pakistan), DVB-T/T2 (mostly Europe), ATSC (South Korea, Canada, USA and Mexico), DVB-C/C2 (cable and all over the world) and ISDB-T ( Japan,Brazil and Latin America).
Viewers don’t need to pay anything to receive the TV channels. Terrestrial and a number of satellite channels can be viewed for free. Some satellite channels require a smart card and CAM module. In this case, viewers are required to pay their TV provider.
Several perks await those who will pledge. One of these perksis a thank you e-mail from AbylayOspan. Those who will pledge $70 will get the USB Joker TV gadget for a special price. Everyone is encouraged to pledge an amount and help turn this project into a reality.
If the project reaches its target funds of $50,000, Joker TV will be made into Open Hardware. All PCB and schematic will be available on the official website of the project, which can be found at http://jokersys.com. If the project exceeds its target funds and raises $100,000, ten pieces of Joker TV will be donated to educational organizations. Those who will pledge can also e-mail AbylayOspan a brief description of their educational program. If the project raises $150,000, Abylaywill prepare open source OSx drivers for MacBooks.
